Pro Tip

Lower MMR Tier

Did you know? MEXC offers a lower maintenance margin tier for a position this size, giving your trade $90.00 more breathing room before a margin call.

How is Crypto Liquidation Price Calculated?

When trading cryptocurrency futures with leverage, you borrow funds from the exchange to increase your buying power. Since the exchange does not want to risk losing its own money, it enforces a liquidation price. If the market moves against your position and your initial collateral (margin) no longer covers your floating losses, the exchange automatically closes your trade and seizes your margin.

The Hidden Killer: Maintenance Margin Rate (MMR)

Many traders mistakenly believe that with 10x leverage, their position will only be liquidated if the asset value drops by exactly 10%. This is mathematically incorrect.

Mark Price vs. Last Price

To protect you from sudden "scam wicks" or temporary exchange glitches, Tier 1 platforms do not use the actual trading price, or last price, to trigger liquidations. Instead, they use the mark price, which is an index that averages the price of the asset across multiple global spot exchanges, such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp. Ensure that your trading charts are set to track the Mark Price when monitoring your liquidation proximity.

Cross Margin vs. Isolated Margin

Our calculator assumes that you are using isolated margin, in which case your risk is strictly limited to the initial margin that you assigned to that specific trade. If you use cross margin, however, the exchange will pull available funds from your entire futures wallet balance to prevent liquidation. Although cross margin pushes your liquidation price further away, a catastrophic market crash could result in the complete loss of your account balance.
